Mr. Garrrett

Hello there everybody! My name is Mr. Garrett and I have been teaching for just over 13 years here at OCHS, which means for many of you I have likely taught many of your older brothers and sisters and friends along the way. I live in Albemarle County with my beautiful wife and three awesome kids (two daughters that are 10 and 12, and one son who is 10 months old). I went to high school in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, and then graduated from the University of Virginia back in 2007, where I was recruited for the Pole Vault among other events in their Track and Field program. While at UVA, I majored in History and achieved a Master in Teaching. I love teaching History because I love to tell a story and watch people engage with the details; I often joke with people when I meet them, telling them that I am a professional story teller when they ask what I do for a living! I love watching movies, playing Nintendo (with and without my kids), working outside in my yard, playing music, and love to read when the book is right. Most of all I love camping with my family whenever we can go! It is such a pleasure to have this opportunity to teach you, even if we are mostly or entirely virtual this year as a school body. I know that this is a strange time for us all to be living in, but most people who know me will tell you that I am persistently optimistic and I do believe that we will eventually pull out of this ever changing, sometime chaotic world we have been living in the past year. I know that we will have a good year, and please understand that if we are all PATIENT, RESPECTFUL, & KIND with one another we will all see this through TOGETHER!

Shepherd 1

Hello,

My name is Mr. Shepherd and I will also be a teacher in this World Studies I class. This is my 3rd year here at OCHS and I am sure this is going to be a different experience at OCHS this year. However, I am looking forward to it being a successful one. I say that I am from Chesterfield, Va but I moved around a lot in a Navy family. I attended VCU after getting out of the Army, and now I am working on my Masters Degree in History at George Mason. My family and I live in Orange and I have three kids. This year is going to be a challenge. It is okay to ask for help. Be patient with each other and us and we can get through this crazy time together!
